Heavy security in Santiniketan on Holi, large vehicles banned, tourists flock to Khoai

Santiniketan remained under tight security on Holi as Visva-Bharati University and its surroundings saw minimal public movement. To ensure the protection of the UNESCO World Heritage site, a large police force was deployed. While tourists were allowed to celebrate at Sonajhuri Khoai, authorities strictly prohibited large vehicles from entering Sonajhuri’s roads to control traffic and maintain order.

Since morning, tourists gathered in Sonajhuri to play with abir, while Basanta Utsav celebrations began in various wards of Bolpur. Events were held in Ratanpalli, Jambuni, and Satipeeth Kankalitala, attracting both locals and visitors. The restrictions did not affect the flow of tourists, who participated in the festivities.

Security personnel closely monitored the situation to prevent disruptions. The focus remained on maintaining law and order while ensuring smooth celebrations. Police presence was reinforced in key locations, and authorities continued regulating vehicle movement near crowded areas.
